Apply one (1) coat at 175 to 200 sq. ft. per gallon

On exterior/interior thatching THATCH SAFE™ can last three to five years, depending on rainfall, while maintaining a flame spread index of less than 25. In extreme weather conditions it may be necessary to re-coat Thatch roofs and exterior walls every three years.
Treat before, during or after construction.
Be sure surface is clean and dry before treating.
Apply with 80 psi or greater sprayer at 8 to 12 inches from surface. Start at the top, hold sprayer at up angle to roof pitch to allow spray under thatching ends. Apply with brush or roller.
Treat all exposed surfaces where possible
Do not expose treated area to moisture for 24 hours.

THATCH SAFE™ is the only ASTM CLASS A, UL Type 1 fire retardant coating available for thatch substrates. It meets the ASTM E84 Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials, ASTM E2898 (ASTM E108 (Accelerated Weathering Procedure), NFPA 255, UL723, UBC 8-1, NFPA 701, and more. THATCH SAFE ™ is a high intumescent fire retardant coating formulated for fire retarding all interior/exterior thatching substrates including Mexican Palm Thatch, African Thatch Reed, bamboo, koa, cypress, Tahitian palm thatch and more.... THATCH SAFE™ fire retardant coating is the product of choice for Tiki bars and restaurants and Tiki Huts to meet fire code compliance. It is the only product listed for thatch substrates in the State of California Office of the State Fire Marshall (Cal Fire). Tests at Intertek Laboratories based on the ASTM E84 Test Method indicates a Flame Spread rating of 0.0 (lowest possible) Smoke Development Index of 85 (far below the standard of 450). The Flame Spread never reached the end of the 24' long THATCH SAFE™ treated test specimen. THATCH SAFE™ acts as a sealer, a mold and mildew inhibitor and repels insects. THATCH SAFE™ can be applied by spray, brush, or roller. It is milky colored in it’s liquid state, dries clear with a semigloss finish when applied that gradually fades to the natural matte finish of the thatch. THATCH SAFE™ coverage rate is 175 to 200 sq. ft./ gallon.
